Revolve Polling is a Canadian research organization focusing on political and public opinion research through an open, nation-wide survey panel.
We are mobile-first with a strong emphasis on user verification and anonymity, achieved through a combination of cutting edge technology. We’ll dive deeper into how this all works below!
Our goal is to reach as many Canadians as possible and provide real time insights to a number of important and interesting issues affecting us daily. We strive to achieve the most accurate results possible and to preserve anonymity with our novel technological approach.
Digging Into The Tech
Revolve Polling stands out in three key ways: Verifiability, Anonymity, and Uniqueness. We’ll break each down to give you a complete view of how the technology works.
Verifiability
We make use of a well established and trusted 3rd party identity verification service to ensure that our users are Canadian residents. This is critical to ensure that our panel results are sourced from eligible users and an accurate reflection of the Canadian public.
Anonymity
Once a user is registered, they can submit responses to available surveys at any time. We make use of zero-knowledge proof cryptography to allow our users to generate a proof that they are a verified, registered user of Revolve Polling without having to reveal which user they are. When we receive a survey response, there are no personally identifying markers bound to the response but we are able to verify that it comes from a registered user.
Uniqueness
Making use of identity verification during the registration process, we are able to generate a privacy preserving identity fingerprint for each user that ensures only a single account can be created. Importantly we will not need to store any personally identifying information, only this derived identity fingerprint.
As described in the Anonymity section, survey responses are submitted via zero-knowledge proofs of account existence. What is also generated as part of these proofs is an important cryptographic digest called a nullifier which is a unique value per account and survey. This ensures that users are only able to submit a single response to a survey and also allows for updating their response as long as the survey is still open. Importantly, the nullifier value is non identifying so anonymity is preserved.
Our Pledge To User Privacy
We will always prioritize user privacy throughout the entire pipeline of registration and survey submission. The combination of the above described technologies provides the highest levels of privacy possible while still ensuring accuracy of results.
